Seattle Day 2

Seattle Day 2 & Lucas's 1st Birthday

We had another great day in Seattle.  Our second day we started bright and early and took the ferry to Bainbridge Island.  We thought a boat ride was a good way to celebrate our little guy's actual first birthday.  It was fun to be in a new place together as a family on his big day!  The girls loved when we got to drive our car right onto the boat, and Lucas was happy to just take it all in.  The views were beautiful, and we all enjoyed the short ride over.  When we got there we spent the first hour or two just driving around exploring.  The girls weren't too happy to be in the car, but Matt and I couldn't get enough of this Island, it was so pretty.  Plus there were multiple downpours that made stopping at the park or other destinations not that tempting.  It was supposed to rain most of the time we were in Seattle, so we lucked out having pretty good weather, and only a few big showers.  During our exploring we did find a fun little beach area.  Lucas was asleep in the car (the poor kid didn't get one nap in a bed the whole week we were on vacation!) so we took turns walking by the water, climbing on the logs, and looking for shells and rocks with the girls.  We stopped at the Blackbird Bakery for some treats and granola (my mom's friend has brought it back for her for years and I love it!), and then ate lunch right on the water by a boat marina.  The whole time we were on the Island we saw only one child.  So we felt like we stuck out a bit with three.  At the restaurant they put us in the middle of the room, which was a great vantage point for everyone there to watch our circus of chaos in perfect view!  After lunch we drove our car back onto the boat and headed back to Seattle.  We wanted to catch another museum before the end of the day. 

 Poor Matt, this boy loves his Mama!  He loves Daddy too, but he didn't like being handed off to Dad for a picture...look at his happy face in the picture with me!!!

We went to the Museum of Flight, which was Matt's one big request for the trip.  He was so excited.  We all enjoyed it some, but much of it was lost on the girls.  Matt was like a kid in a candy store, and he was especially excited to share these planes with his birthday boy son!   He took multiple pictures with Lucas and the SR-71 Blackbird.

 I'm not sure who was more excited to try riding in the plane, Matt or the girls!

We ended our day driving around Seattle to see some areas we hadn't seen yet.  We wanted to eat at Hard Rock Cafe for Lucas's birthday dinner, but we drove around forever and couldn't find a parking garage with high enough clearance to fit the car top carrier, and we couldn't find street parking.  We were starving and cranky by the time we stumbled on this whole row of Asian kind of restaurants.  We decided to try a Thai one out and crossed our fingers that it would be good.  It ended up being a perfect end to our day.  Everyone loved their food, including Lucas.  They were so nice to us, and loved our kids.  They put us in a corner booth by the window, and were very nice when one of the girls spilled an entire glass of water on the floor right after we sat down!  That's our kind of place.  Happy 1st birthday little Lucas!
