New Hair Cuts (and week before school starts)

Last week was all about doing things to get ready for our first official back to school!  We went school shopping...Highlight:  Running through Kohl's chasing both girls through the racks of clothes yelling for them to stop.  Matisyn was testing some shoes out that she was trying on and wanted to run in them, Emilyn wanted to copy her Sissy, Matisyn thought Emilyn chasing her was funny, they both thought me chasing them was funny so they ran faster, and that's how I ended up with two girls running through the store.  I left the cart and my purse to catch Emilyn, and looked like a crazy person running after them.  Fun times, great to start the school shopping tradition! 

A little better experience was going to Carter's and to lunch with Cora and Olivia.  We always love getting to spend time with them.  Too bad we ended up with a very sick Emilyn when we got home though.  She woke up from her nap with a 104 degree fever.  With her bladder reflux problems we have to take her right to the doctor in case it is a UTI.  Luckily it wasn't, but she had an ear infection and a horrible spotted throat.  The doctor couldn't believe how well she was doing with how bad it looked.  She seems to be pretty tough when it comes to pain.  The doctor said something like this is going around and called it Hand, Foot, and Mouth Virus, after the strep test came back negative.  She got an antibiotic anyway though because of the ear infection.  It seemed to help.  My biggest fear was that Matisyn would get it and miss her first day of kindergarten.  After Emilyn was better in three days, and no rash of any sort showed up, I decided it probably wasn't the Hand, Foot and Mouth thing.  Matisyn did end up getting it on Saturday.  We had her rest as much as her hyper self, even sick, could handle.  Then Sunday we got an antibiotic from our neighbor friend that's a PA, he saved the day!  It was hard to know if it was viral or bacterial, but just in case we wanted to try it so she could make it to her first day.  Luckily she was well enough, and super energetic and excited to start school by Tuesday.

One of the other things we did was get the girls' hair cut.  We went to see Suzanne at my salon and she trimmed Matisyn's up a little (we are still growing it to be princess hair, down past her feet like Rapunzel if it was up to her), and Emilyn's a little shorter (the mullet is officially gone now!).

 Emilyn had to try using the camera since Matisyn did, she didn't do too bad.

 Matisyn still has an enormous imagination, and loves to dress up and play characters.  She requested pictures be taken of this look.  In the background you can see Tangled on TV.  Emilyn is obsessed with it right now.  It seems to be the first show she has really been interested in and asks to watch it multiple times a day.  We've watched it so much now, especially during the week of sickness, that even Matisyn groans when Emilyn mentions it again, and she loves it too!

Matt and his brother Mike started a little side business, Bliss Signs, making vinyl signs a few months ago.  Here he is working double time on a job.  We've had some late nights up together weeding and taping.  We are bonding through vinyl!  He is such a hard worker, and even though he is so busy, he seems to be able to handle one more thing.  There's Matisyn in the background, always wanting to be part of the action!

Matisyn also had her Kindergarten assessment this week before school started.  It was fun to get to go in and see her teacher again, talk to her before school started, and see how much Matisyn has learned so far.  I was across the room, so I'm not exactly sure how it went, but it seemed like Matisyn was able to do almost everything she asked her to do. When I told her teacher that she was a little nervous whether she was ready to start kindergarten, she said she was more than ready.  She knows all her letters and sounds, can read a few words, can count and sort, etc.  She also got to choose a cubby, which she was so happy about, she didn't just want a hook, and she got to choose a seat at a table.  She has a few friends she already knows in her class, and I assumed she would choose sit next to them.  She surprised me by choosing the orange table with nobody she knows.  She told me she wants to make new friends, and she can't wait to meet new kids.  So as long as she can control her excitement and handle disappointment if it comes her way, then we are READY!
