Lucas, 19 Months
We were so worried about Lucas and his speech the last
couple of months. It is normal for
some babies to start talking later, but it is a red flag if they are saying
some words at a year and then stop.
By his 18 month doctor’s appt. he had “regressed” as they say with his
speech. I was in panic mommy mode,
worried about what that could mean.
It was as if he sensed my panic, and being the sweet, little guy that he
is he didn’t want me to worry! He
started saying words by the end of that same week. Ever since then he is talking more and more, saying new
words all the time. It was such a
relief to hear him talking. I
think he just doesn’t have as much to say as his sisters did! Here are most of the words he is saying
right now:
Beep beep (binky)
Baby (blankie)
Didee (sissy)
Cheese
Hat
peek a boo
ball
mama
dada
bubbles (one of his very favorite words!)
baba
Ama (grandma)
peas (please)
owie
uh oh (said even when he is the one purposely causing the
disaster!)
Our Lucas is mostly known as Lucas, but sometimes we call
him Lukie, Luke, Little Stinker, Lucas Matthew, and often Trouble!

He loves loud noises. Trucks, planes, vacuums, blenders, lawn mowers, etc. He giggles and smiles ear to ear when
he hears one.
·
He loves all transportation vehicles! Garbage trucks, dump trucks,
helicopters, airplanes, etc.
·
He loves to read, especially books with
trucks. Are you following the
theme?!!! He also loves books with
flaps and touch and feel pages.
·
He knocks, dumps, pours, and kicks everything in
his reach. He is a wild one
now! He loves to explore, and will
play well on his own for a while, especially if I’m in the same room. He will pull everything out of his toy
chest just so he can climb into it.
·
He is a snuggler! He loves his binky and blanket and snuggling with his
Mommy. Sometimes Matt or the girls
get lucky and he will pick them to snuggle.
·
He LOVES tools. He can use tools as utensils…which seems like a skill. He gets very upset if you take his
tools away, and he smiles from ear to ear if you let him play with them. He likes his play tools too, but the
real ones are his favorites. He
must sense the danger! He also
likes fire sticks, even though he doesn’t even know what they do yet!

He started going to nursery at church. I was so worried because of his
allergies, but so far he has done great.
He cried the first day, but settled down. We went in the first few weeks during snack time to make
sure he got his own special snacks.
Since then I’ve had Matt drop him off and check in at snack time and he
does better. Even if he cries when
Matt leaves, it only lasts a minute.

His allergies have been challenging to say the
least. We feel much better about
everything now, and more in control.
We have found some good options for him, but it is a constant
struggle. Trader Jo’s has been my
friend, too bad the closest store is 40 minutes away. That is where we found the only bread he can eat, some
turkey and cheese he likes, chips, and snacks. We also go to Good Earth for his favorite rice bars, cookies
made out of we’re not exactly sure what, but he likes them, and the only candy
we have found that he can eat, organic juice suckers. He eats a lot of fruit and rice products. He won’t eat some of the things he can
eat, which makes feeding him even more difficult. We are getting better and learning and trying new foods with
him all the time. I think we are
all healthier because I have to check labels now, which helps me to look on the
bright side of this!

He loves to go on walks in his push car, and
loves to be outside in general.
·
He loves the water, and has no fear so far when
we go swimming.
·
He puts everything in his mouth still!
·
He finally likes my singing to him! Some of his favorites are “The Wise Man
Built his House Upon the Rock,” “Itsy Bitsy Spider,” and “Twinkle, Twinkle
Little Star.” I think he likes my
actions for them. He claps when
I’m done with a song each time, which is so cute!

He doesn’t use the word “no” yet, which is
nice. He finds other ways to tell
you he doesn’t want something, by turning away or shaking his head. Occasionally he throws the bowl or food
you give him, which I guess the word no would be preferable to! He just started saying “uh uh,” which
can mean yes or no so far. “Do you
love Mommy?” “Uh uh.” And then he snuggles me!

He loves animals, but isn’t really doing animals
sounds yet. He still thinks every
kind of animal ROARS!
·
He naps around noon each day, and is ready for
bed around 7:30.
·
When I go to get him out of his crib each time,
he is full of huge smiles and giggles when he sees me.
·
His sisters fight with each other all the time,
but absolutely adore him. They are
generally patient and loving with him, especially Matisyn. They love their baby brother!
·
We are all enjoying him in our family so
much! He is a pretty agreeable, go
with the flow, sweet boy. He is
all boy with his love of trucks, fire, tools, and destruction, but also listens
more than the girls ever did at this age, and is so loving and kind. We love this boy!
