We celebrated Matisyn's 9th birthday, and our last day in California, playing on the beach! It was a near perfect day, beautiful weather, happy kids, and a gorgeous place to end our trip and visit with family. I say near perfect because poor birthday girl Matisyn ended up getting smashed by a wave while boogie boarding and stung by a bee! She actually handled both pretty well, and all in all it was a really great day!
Emilyn and her cousin Trinity really bonded this trip. They are about 8 months apart in age, and formed a pretty close little friendship this time. They loved playing in the sand and water together. Both Matisyn and Emilyn were excited to try out boogie boarding for the first time. Even with Matisyn's crash, I think she enjoyed it. She also loved spending time searching for shells. Emilyn's favorite part was being pulled around on the board by her Daddy! Matt even tried his hand at surfing again this trip. I think he was able to get up on the board once, but it was short lived. I love that he is a great sport at trying everything. He loves experiences of all kinds. Thanks to my brother John for bringing the boards and giving him some pointers. I enjoyed relaxing in the sun and sand, visiting with my sister in law Ayme, and watching the kids play. Lucas took a great nap in the tent when we arrived, and then enjoyed lots of sand time. He loves sand and he loves to build, so he was a happy boy. Lucas and Felicity mostly played next to each other, rather than together! We spent most of the day there, and then picked up Mexican food for dinner on the way home.
Since it was Matisyn's birthday, I made a cake for her while the exhausted kids got baths and pajamas. We were able to squeeze in a happy birthday song for her, nine candles to blow out, and some cake eating before all of the kids were almost falling asleep at the table!
