Happy Halloween!

We had a really nice Halloween this year. Matisyn got to dress up five times, which was exciting for her. It made Halloween seem like it lasted longer. She dressed up for Porter's party, a party with Cora (when I was gone at class), preschool, the ward party, and the actual night of Halloween. The ward party was crowded, but we managed to squeeze in at a table to eat, and Matisyn didn't seem to mind, except when all the donuts and treats were gone before she got one! She liked getting to run around with all the other ghosts and goblins, and play the little games that were set up.
The night of Halloween we spent the beginning trick or treating with the Ericksen's. Matisyn and Izzy going together is tradition now. This was their third year together. They didn't get into it as much as we thought they would. They didn't seem to figure out that the faster they went, the more candy they would get. It probably didn't help that while they were running around Izzy crashed and skinned her knees . . . twice. They had fun though, and Emilyn and Gabby just looked around and enjoyed the view and the ride in the stroller.
After trick or treating we came home to regroup and get ready to go to Papa and Grandma Johnson's to play with the cousins. We went out together for awhile and then spent some time at their house. They rented a cotton candy machine so their house was pretty popular. It was fun for the kids and the adults!

It was a beautiful night, warm enough to not worry about taking Emilyn outside. She didn't even need a blanket until the end. The fuzzy chicken helped keep her warm. She loved to pat and pet her fur. She was a real trouper. She just hung out in the stroller and played at Grandma's way past her bedtime in the best of spirits. We didn't leave until 10:30 or so. Matisyn also had a great night, and even with the sugar high, fell asleep minutes after being strapped into her car seat to go home.

Chomping on some candy, wrappers are just as good as the real thing according to Emilyn. They make a better sound! Matisyn agreed at this age when she was dressed as this same chicken.

We're not sure where that came from, but when Matt asked her later she said it's when your hands are stuck in blue jello!

Matisyn likes to climb in bed and snuggle with us. The other day she said, "Ok, Mommy, that's enough snuggling for me today."

On Friday night at the ward Halloween party one of the Dad's was dressed up in a big, black cloak on stilts. He was VERY tall. We always tell Matisyn that she will grow if she eats her vegetables. When she saw him she said, "Daddy, I bet that guy ate a big salad!" She just noticed his size, not his scary mask.

Tonight during dinner, Matisyn got in trouble for getting into trouble, and not listening when we told her to stop. Pretty usual stuff. We were both talking to her and trying to get her to follow directions and she said, "Mommy, Daddy, you don't talk to me that way. This is a joke." 3 1/2 going on 16. She is already talking back.

Blowing out my birthday candles on my cake I asked what she thought I should wish for and she held my chin gently and said very matter of factly, "a sweet dragon."
