Matisyn begged to take gymnastics for months before I finally gave in and let her. She was already in dance, and occasional other activities like soccer and reading, so it just seemed like too much. It was definitely the right decision though. She has loved it so far, she started in February, and has improved tons since then. She really wanted to go at first because she loves the bars, but I think she has improved the most on her floor tumbling. She went from hitting her head repeatedly as she tried to learn, to now being able to do a back bend without a problem. She was so proud of this trick that I caught her doing one in her dress in the middle of the aisle at church one Sunday! It was fun to watch her do some of the tricks she has learned at a little exhibition meet they put on at Jump Up. There were four groups of students and they rotated to four stations, beam, floor, vault, and bars, all at the same time, so you hear the same floor routine song being played over and over. Emilyn LOVED the song, and spent the whole time dancing every time it came back on! Matisyn was especially excited to get a ribbon at the end of the meet.
Below are a few videos from segments of the meet, and one of Emilyn shaking her booty:
