Three Year Old Emilyn

Here are some things about Three-Year-Old Emilyn:

April 17, 2012
30.8 lbs  52 %
35.5 inches  16 %

  • She calls McDonalds the "Old McDonald had a Farm" restaurant and Capri Sun drinks “sunbeams.”  She also names her toys and animals things like “Sally Doo Doo” and “Rapunzel Hoo Hoo.”
  • She is funny, and has us laughing all the time.
  • She says “yip, yip” to her stuffed dogs and horses.  It seems to mean go and come.
  • She still sleeps in a crib with a crib tent.  She only naps every couple of days or so now, but seems to fall asleep more often when I zip her up and she knows she can’t get out.  It also helps her sleep a little later in the morning.
  • She loves playgroup, and asks about it all week long.  Her favorite little friend is Lillie, probably because her mom Ashly and I put them together so often, Lillie is patient with Emi, and they crack each other up.
  • She isn’t a picky eater and we hardly have any food battles with her.  She is willing to try new things and isn’t scared about how food looks.  She loves normal kid food like chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, yogurt, and fruit, but also loves things like avocado and salad.  She has a sweet tooth and loves treats like the rest of the family.  Sometimes she’ll say “I don’t like this,” but really she means that she doesn’t want to eat it right now.
  • She calls all meals of the day “dinner.”
  • She is not fun to take to restaurants.
  • She has lots of different looks and expressions.
  • She cries often about seemingly unimportant things, but can be easily distracted.  Sometimes I think, seriously you are crying again, but then she gets over it so quick, I try to be patient with her frequent emotions.
  • She just had surgery.  She had tubes put in her ears and her adenoids taken out.  She came out of the anesthesia like a pro, no crying or fussiness, but took a bit to feel better once we got home.  She would run around and over-do it and then crash.  She was having about an ear infection a month and the antibiotics were taking care of them, but the worst part was even with the medicine she had constant fluid bulging in her ears.  She was in pain and discomfort all the time.   I was hoping it would significantly improve her attitude to have the surgery and relieve that pain and pressure, but turns out she is just acting like her three year old self!
  • She wants to get her way, even if it makes no sense.  She is very opinionated.
  • She likes to play games and watch shows on the “high pad” (ipad) and also on “the big tv.”  She loves Dragon Tails, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins, and Scooby Doo.   She also likes Disney movies like The Emperor’s New Groove, all three Toy Stories, and Tangled.  She’ll quote from shows out of the blue.
  • She loves to read together.  Some of her favorite books are the Froggy series, Where the Wild Things Are, Dog’s Colorful Day, Curious George, and the Click, Clack Moo series.
  • Her very favorite thing to do is snuggle.  She asks all the time, “Mommy, you snuggle me.”  Her favorite place to be is on the couch snuggling with Mommy or Daddy and her blankets watching a show or reading a book.  She is hard to turn down.
  • She named her blankets “Fly” and “Pink Polka-dots.”  She needs them both to sleep, but is willing to only choose one to go places with her.
  • She loves to ride her balance bike and asks all day long to go on bike rides.
  • She still talks about Disneyland and asks to go back.  She loves the characters and princesses.
  • She loves to help Mommy and Daddy cook in the kitchen.
  • She likes to make us pretend food in her kitchen, blender, and toaster.  She also loves to play with Barbies and build blocks and towers together.  She loves to play dress up and put on jewelry.
  • She is very picky about what she wears.  She only likes soft clothes that spin and twirl.  She refuses to wear jeans or anything that is not comfortable.
  • She loves to play with her stuffed animals.  When I go to get her out of her crib in the morning I often find her reading to and talking with her animals.
  • She adores her sister and follows her around everywhere, but can also be mean to her for no reason.  We’re guessing she is lashing out when she has flashbacks of how Matisyn treated her when she was that age and Emi was just a baby!
  • She goes to bed really well on her own.  She still likes a sippy cup of warm milk and books before we put her down, but then she just reads, sings, and talks to herself until she falls asleep.
  • She has been potty trained for months, but still has an accident a day some weeks and then no problems the next.  She does not want to slow down to go.
  • She prides herself on being a big girl and getting to wear panties.  She always talks about how when she is big like sissy she gets to go to school and dance and gymnastics.
  • She loves to dance, and asks for songs on every time we get in the car.  She loves to sing and perform for us, and often is just singing at the top of her lungs while she is playing.
  • She can be whiny, and then in the next breath say the sweetest thing you ever heard.
  • This may be too much information, but when she goes poop, and there are more than one, she says she is “doing poopy families.”
  • One of her favorite places to visit is the Dinosaur Museum.
  • She thinks Grandma Karen lives in the airport because that’s where we always pick her up.  She often asks to go visit her there.
  • She always tells me she loves me, which I love to hear!
  • She loves to jump on our trampoline, but usually wants one of us to join her on it.
  • She loves the park.  Her favorite thing to do there is swing.
  • I never thought Emilyn would be able to keep up with such an energetic and charismatic sister, but she can shine and perform with the best of them!  She too loves to be the center of attention, is full of energy and personality, and makes sure life is never boring around here.  Emi is fun, wild, caring, frustrating, loving, stubborn, loud, cuddly, and wonderful!  We are so grateful to have her in our family!
